Performing Tips

By Erin Garcia

Listed here are more ideas and pointers you can do to get yourself on the path to being a skilled stand up comedian:

Make video clips of your performances. You need to be able to get back and look at how it turned out. There may be some things that you did not like and may need to have adjustments.

Were you moving too much? Were you talking too slow or too fast? Did you talk too loud? It could take you several viewings to know how one can enhance it.

Visit the clubs. In case you are not ready for the comedy clubs yet, start off at areas which host opens mic nights. Nonetheless, to be able to improve your craft, look at other comedy clubs to see how other stand-up comedians perform.

It is possible to observe and take notes. Eventually, you'll be able to get in touch with a few club owners once they get accustomed to seeing your face in their place. You will also be able to go with some other stand-up comedians.

Have a notebook handy when you're performing. You might end up getting suggestions to your stand-up routine at the last minute. In case you don't have a note pad, then you won't manage to keep your ideas. Once it strikes, jot it down if you have not taken the stage yet.

Don't pull your feet on getting out there before an audience. The more you put yourself out there, the more you will be able to perform. Consequently, it will be possible to learn the ropes of stand-up comedy shows. It's actually better to obtain more chances to perform since you may get more publicity.

If you screw up, do not stop learning. Don't think that every time you perform your stand-up routine the audience will adore you. Sorry, but that's not the case. You can encounter what it feels like for people not to have a good laugh with your humor because they feel that it's not interesting.

You will notice the looks on their face that explain your performance has been a waste of time and they want a refund. All you should do is move ahead, look at what exactly worked and what didn't. You will work even harder to have it right the next time.

One thing that may get you a name, which you really don't want-getting other's comedian's materials. Don't even think about doing it in any way, shape, form or fashion. Even if you're making use of the material with different words, leave it alone. Your own profession will become null and void and you will probably have bitten the dust very quickly.

If a promoter or club manager gives you a time slot, stay within that time frame. You might be overstepping your bounds and taking advantage of what was given to you.

That would certainly be considered rude, inconsiderate and unprofessional to go over your time limit.

There may be other acts following yours and that they have to get on when it's their time.

Even if the audience is not really responding, that is not a reason to get more time than you're supposed to have. Rest assured you have possibly taken your opportunity at performing at their venue in the future.

Be nice to your audience. You need them to be receptive to you and laugh with your material. There is no need to be insulting. Simply because several other comedians do it, doesn't mean you need to be the status quo. - 40728
